higher groundHigher Ground Learning marries academics and mother earth for a refreshing educational vision

Higher Ground Learning, an independent educational facility in downtown Salt Lake City, is a creative learning center for all ages, providing students with educational alternatives that stimulate the intellect and imagination.  We are closing the textbooks and taking class outside, offering students a chance to earn high school credit as we synthesize wilderness exploration with traditional academics. Realizing that students have different needs, and the methods for meeting them are as diverse as the students themselves, we believe that outdoor education and adventure pursuits are an excellent vehicle for learning, growth, and empowerment – and that these opportunities should be available to all students, regardless of their financial ability.

SOLOFounded in 1976 as a school dedicated to teaching Wilderness and Emergency Medicine, SOLO, Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities, is the only school of its kind offering an educational, research, and conference center to both the international outdoor rescue and emergency medical communities as well as the local rural communities of New England.

SOLO has instructed over 75,000 individuals, guides, mountain rescue teams, and staffs from organizations such as NOLS, Outward Bound, the Appalachian Mountain Club, Nantahala Outdoor Center,The Sierra Club, and the National Park Service as well as fire, rescue and ambulance services.
